VIDEO STAR: 5-MINUTE PRIMER

Once you’ve created the video, it’s time to review it. But wait ten minutes. Grab a cup of coffee and sit back to enjoy the show. Now watch the video as though you would a movie—as if it isn’t really you up there. Wait another ten minutes to give yourself time to digest what you saw, then:

Minute 1: Write down what was appealing about the person on the screen (and be fair to yourself).

Minute 2: Write down what came across in attitude. Did you like the person on the tape?

Minute 3: Write down how your voice sounded and your inflection, phrasing, tone, clarity, and emphasis.

Minute 4: What about your body language—gestures, eye contact, posture, facial expression? Write down your thoughts.

Minute 5: Write down the takeaway point (please don’t refer back to your notes—do it from memory.

My goal is to build your confidence, which is why I urge you to try videotaping. If you choose this approach you can maximize your efforts and make the process as painless as possible.
