Feeding Your Soul

What does your soul need to survive? Everyone is different. Maybe you need an hour of quiet to yourself in a day. A space in which you can clear you head and meditate and focus. Maybe you need to do something active several times a week - that doing something good for your body makes you feel alive and complete.

Maybe you need to make more time for your family. In a Huffpost piece, performer Melissa Errico stated, “Not only do I have an obligation to myself to re-group, but I have an obligation to [my family]. It’s really important to have a different rhythm outside of the ebbs and lows of the profession. In my case, it’s a family tribe. We’re a soul tribe, and there’s so much affection and passion.”

What fuels you? What grounds you? What supports you? How do you feed your soul?

Grab a tablet and a pen.On a left-hand-side page, and at the top, I want you to write: 10 Things I Wish I Had More Time to Do Daily.

On the opposite page, I want you to write: 10 Things I Have to Do Daily and Don't Want to Do.

Take your time with this, for the Want To and the Don't Want To columns.

It's easy enough to fill the “Want To” column with things like “exercise” or “eat better” or get a manicure, but I want you to dig more deeply than that. Why do you want to make time to exercise daily? How would getting a manicure fulfill you?

Same with the other side. It's easy enough to fill the column of things you don't want to do with “laundry,” “driving to work,” and “grocery shopping,” but I want you to try and dig deeper than that – for both columns. If there's something that pops into your mind that you don't want to be doing, don't just write the first thing.

Think it through. Try to figure out why you don't want to do that particular thing. When you get to the heart of why you want to and don't want to do things, you'll get a better sense of what you want out of life and why.

A new you begins one day at a time

Go forth and conquer.
